Practice Plus Group (PPG) work in partnership with the NHS to provide 24/7 integrated urgent care services.

PPG's lease was coming to an end and they needed a care centre that offered a calm, inclusive and purpose-built environment for their staff. Together, we selected the right building and delivered a high-performing, people-first workplace that enables health professionals to provide vital care with compassion.

Building on success to support essential care

Practice Plus Group operate a network of NHS 111 contact centres in England, handling up to 8,000 calls a day across their national hubs.

When the lease on their serviced office in Uxbridge was nearing its end, there was a pressing need to find a new building that would better support their NHS 111 clinical assessment and out-of-hours teams. This was an opportunity to create a space that would enable staff to assess patients’ immediate medical needs, and offer a calm environment for those in demanding roles.

Having delivered PPG’s flagship workspace in Stockton, we adapted that successful blueprint to meet the needs of different teams in Uxbridge.

Choosing the right building

We began by shortlisting three buildings that could better support the needs of their NHS 111 contact centre staff and out-of-hours service teams. We assessed each building against key criteria such as natural light, accessibility, location and onsite facilities. This led to choosing a fantastic building within the same area – a newly refurbished space with nearby parkland walks, food outlets, a health club and a golf course.

The new workplace is set on the ground floor, with enhanced lighting and security, for safer and more direct access for out-of-hours services such as medication distribution. Desks are positioned to maximise views of the lake, and upgraded facilities, including showers and secure bike storage, further support staff health and well-being.

Balancing functionality with comfort

PPG’s new space gives their multidisciplinary teams more than just a place to work. It offers a supportive environment to ease the intensity of their high-pressured roles. Highlights include:

  • A spacious social hub at the heart of the office, for connection and community
  • Excellent kitchen facilities, to encourage teams to take breaks away from their desks
  • A multi-purpose learning and development suite for ongoing training and growth
  • Meeting rooms to suit all workstyles – from informal spaces to a formal boardroom
  • Two well-being rooms for rest, care and personal time, including one with a sink and a fridge for returning mothers
  • Two inclusive faith rooms for a multi-faith workplace
  • Lakeside views, for a calming backdrop

Brand elements throughout the welcome and training spaces encourage a sense of pride and belonging, while the main team areas feature natural materials, biophilic design, and warm oak finishes.

More than a contact centre

PPG have transitioned from a temporary space that no longer met the needs of their diverse workforce to a modern environment that truly puts people first. Their 24/7 service now runs more safely and more smoothly, and their employees have the facilities to work effectively and recharge.

PPG’s new environment reflects their ambition to attract and retain healthcare talent by supporting well-being, operational efficiency and inclusivity. It raises the bar and sets a new benchmark for future healthcare environments.

“The cost of recruiting and training healthcare professionals is significant. This investment in a high-quality, people-focused space will not only help us retain our teams – it will help us attract the very best talent to deliver vital services.”

–  Justine Cooper, Facilities/Project Manager at Practice Plus Group
