KPMG AND THE BIG MOVE

So the wait is finally over. Perhaps one of most anticipated deals in Manchester’s recent commercial property history is finally nearing its end as KPMG looks set to sign a pre-let agreement for Argent’s One St Peter’s Square [insert link to PW].

For the city’s agency community, who have long stated that this deal could well be the catalyst for Manchester’s revival, the news comes hot on the heels of the encouraging announcements that Allied London has secured funding to expand Spinningfields and that Brasennose House is also set for redevelopment [link to relevant stories on Insider and TheBusinessDesk].

As for occupiers, clearly there is a wealth of options available to those pondering a future move, with some truly first class schemes set to be delivered.

This is an ideal situation for any business to be in, as inevitably it presents them with more choices to find a building that suits the needs of their workplace, and does not restrict them to a narrow selection where the size of floorplate and glass facade are the only differentiators.

Any decision to move office must be driven, first and foremost, by whether the building chosen can provide the shell needed to house a workplace that is designed to serve the strategic and operational requirements of the organisation.

All too often, organisations find themselves picking the building first and then trying to fit the workplace around it afterwards. Such reverse engineering rarely leads to ideal outcomes.

As anyone of our specialists will tell you, from our design team to our change management experts, it is far more cost effective to chose the type of workplace you need before the acquisition hunt begins.

So Manchester’s great choice of schemes means there is likely to be a space that fits all organisations.

Just as long as they know what they need first and build their selection criteria around their workplace, then the city could provide rich pickings for occupiers on the search for the perfect office.
